Assassin's Creed 3 -- A Gaming Revolution - G4tv.com

Assassin's Creed 3

Assassin's Creed 3 is the final chapter in the story of Desmond Miles, the once-reluctant assassin, who with the help of his ancestors and the animus may be the key to saving the world. Did I mention this game takes place during the American Revolution? It's a lot to take in but if Assassin's Creed 3 delivers, it will be the ultimate conclusion to a thrilling story.

If you're worried, let Morgan Webb ease you off that ledge before you jump into a pile of hay. This game delivers and then some. Find out why in our Assassin's Creed 3 Review.

"This game has a ridiculous amount of content. There are whole portions of the game and major mechanics that I haven?t even mentioned here. There are endless collectables that you actually want to collect, like peg leg trinkets that open up pirate-style searches for hidden treasure. There are hidden forts that need to be liberated, chests that need to be looted, and citizens that need to be saved. There are missions to liberate zones in both New York and Boston that eventually let you recruit new assassins to your cause. You then send these assassins on missions of their own, or just use one of their many modes, such as ambush, bodyguard, or marksman, to make your own life easier. The naval and land based missions are all replayable with additional objectives for full synchronization. There are multiple groups that each offer side challenges, such as a hunt for Bigfoot. If you want to unlock fast travel locations, you?re going to need to explore the extensive underground tunnels. Just when you think you?ve done everything, you find more fully voiced missions, more things to collect, and more bad guys to kill."

For all the reasons you need to check out AC3, read our full Assassin's Creed 3 Review.

Wiki Life: Windows 8 TechNet Wiki Widget - Ordering Organised Chaos

?

TechNet Wiki life?is "organised chaos"

?

"Chaos"

Anyone can add anything they like, whenever they like, however they like!

However, many people don't include a?table of contents,?follow the style guidelines, understand how to use the Editor?or include the common tags

Some articles are pure advertising spam, some are outrageous plagiarisms,?some are?invaluable -?but disorganised.

?

"Organised"

There is a growing?army of TechNet friends getting noticed for their tireless work tidying other people's contributions.

They add tags, the [toc] marker, spellcheck, remove spam, format, comment, and translate the article into many other languages.

Most articles come with at least a set of tags that help to index the actual content, but there's often more you can add.

More and more articles are getting linked together, creating a true ecosystem of information for every subject imaginable.

?

The TechNet Wiki web site has done a great job of organising this flood of content into top level lists.

However, other than the My Pages?link, there is not much customisation to the delivery of the flood of content.

?

TechNet Wiki Widget?adds more order to this organised chaos

It is a Windows?8 app, in response to a recent call-to-arms by Peter Geelen.

I have begun documenting?the TechNet Wiki Widget?here,?plus I am very honoured to have recently been interviewed about it here.

My?hope is that,?as more of you pick up Windows 8 on your phone, slate, laptop or desktop, then you will join me?in shaping an app that is truly useful.

Currently, TWW collects the most useful RSS feeds and presents them to you.

Unlike a regular RSS reader, I am able to tailor the feed presentations?and promote?the different fields they use, those that are most relevant to the reader, for that feed.

For example, for "article updates", I want to link to the revision changes, not the revision itself.?It is the?highlighted differences?that show me how the article has changed.

The "article updates" feed only provides the actual revision article link. I take that revision number, and instead link the user to the awesomely useful?"version compare" feature of TechNet Wiki.

TWW also allows you to Tweet an article URL to your Twitter account. In this way, you can help us promote TNWiki articles to other networks.

These are some of the ways I hope to help you, in your wiki life.

??

And this is where YOU come in...

I?hope?to make this app genuinely useful to YOU?the people who regularly use TechNet.

What I need to understand is how you USE TechNet.

?

What kind of searches?you?make regularly?

What RSS feeds do you already subscribe to?

What sections do you browse?

Which stats are of most interest?

?

These and many other questions will help us all better define how best to organise and consume TechNet Wiki contributions.

?

I am building the TN Wiki Widget?for YOU, so feel free to let me know when you think of?a feature that would help you, in your wiki life.

?

Please post your ideas?and comments below,?or on the wiki article, or just in reply to future posts about updates.

?

Here's hoping Santa stuffs your stockings full of Windows 8 devices this Christmas!

New technique to study how myeloids become white blood cells

ScienceDaily (Oct. 25, 2012) ? Associate Professor of Cell and Developmental Biology Fei Wang and colleagues have created a new technique to study how myeloids, a type of blood stem cell, become the white blood cells important for immune system defense against infections and tissue damage. This tool provides an improved understanding of the molecular mechanisms at work during this myeloid differentiation process, and may improve our ability to treat myeloid diseases like leukemia.

Their findings appear in the journal Blood.

Myeloids are blood stem cells from bone marrow or the spinal cord that are turned into common types of white blood cells like neutrophils and macrophages through the process of myeloid differentiation. Deficiencies in this differentiation process cause leukemia, or cancer of the white blood cells. Researchers in the field had previously studied myeloid differentiation using two types of cell systems. In one method of study, scientists performed experiments using primary cells, or those cells taken directly from animals. Scientists have also utilized leukemia tumor cells in this research by returning them to their previous myeloid stem cell-like states. However, primary cells are hard to grow and manipulate genetically, and tumor cells still contain the genetic mutations that caused these cells to divide uncontrollably in the first place.

The drawbacks of these systems prompted Associate Professor of Cell and Developmental Biology and corresponding author Fei Wang to develop a different system to better understand the mechanisms of myeloid differentiation. Wang and his team began by turning mouse embryonic stem cells into myeloid progenitor cells. They then added a protein called Hoxb8 to these cells that had been shown previously to immortalize myeloid progenitor cells so that they do not die and grow indefinitely.

"This really simplified the whole system, so, number one, we didn't have to deal with animals or human bodies, and, number two, we immortalized these cells so that they can be easily handled in culture and maintain normal myeloid progenitor cell genetic information," Wang said.

The researchers wanted to prove that their model is effective in determining the molecular mechanisms important to myeloid differentiation. Enzymes called protein kinases are known to mediate processes like cell development, immune response, and cell differentiation. They screened a variety of protein kinase inhibitors to find potential key regulators of myeloid differentiation. A protein kinase inhibitor of a molecule called mTor, a master regulator of cell behavior, was found to interfere with myeloid differentiation, signifying that mTor is a key regulator of this process. A variety of experiments were performed both inside and outside the mouse body with mTor to further prove that this molecule is necessary for myeloid differentiation.

"The function of this molecule had not been defined prior to this study in the context of myeloid differentiation," Wang said, "This is the first evidence showing that this molecule plays a significant role in myeloid differentiation." This finding serves as a proof of principle that the new system provides a powerful tool for future studies of normal and abnormal myeloid differentiation. "Using this system, we can introduce genetic manipulations that tell us something very important about how normal myeloid differentiation works, and what kind of molecular events in this process can go wrong, leading to diseases like leukemia," Wang said.

"People can use this as a platform for large-scale screening analysis for drugs that potentially can promote myeloid differentiation and can slow down or stop myeloid disease processes."

AIDS Council PSAs Use Foursquare Reference Brilliantly To Sell ...

These new PSAs for the AIDS Council, put together by the McCann Worldgroup Helsinki ad agency, equate getting busy to checking in on Foursquare.

A heterosexual couple touch each other and get undressed; right before he pulls off his skivvies, a map icon pops up with the info, ?Cathy Mills and 34 others were here.? Oh, snap. Imagine? ?You have ousted Jenny as Mayor of Brandon?s junk.?

PLACES for men (english) from McCann Worldgroup Helsinki on Vimeo.

There?s also a version where the woman starts to take off her panties and the alert reads, ?Ryan Smith and 19 others were here.? Of course, as Rebecca Cullers points outon AdFreak.

PLACES for women (english) from McCann Worldgroup Helsinki on Vimeo.

The main problem I see is that the ads play off fear and contribute to the stigma of sexual promiscuity. We should take care to remember that while your number of partners may increase your chances of getting an STD, it only takes one. Or none, if you?re born positive.

While it?s true that the ads can be seen as slut-shamey, (and reminiscent of war propaganda putting the blame on women), it?s still a pretty clever way to speak to the current generation about sex. Nobody wants to unlock the chlamydia badge.

U.S. sues BofA over alleged mortgage fraud

The U.S. is suing Bank of America on behalf of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, with CNBC's Scott Cohn.

By Reuters

UPDATED 2:11 p.m. ET: The United States filed a civil mortgage fraud lawsuit against Bank of America, accusing it of selling thousands of toxic home loans to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac that went into default and caused more than $1 billion of losses.

Wednesday's case, originally brought by a whistleblower, is the U.S. Department of Justice's first civil fraud lawsuit over mortgage loans sold to Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac.

It also compounds the problems that the Bank of America, second-largest U.S. bank, has faced since its disastrous 2008 purchase of Countrywide Financial Corp, once the nation's largest mortgage lender.

According to a complaint filed in Manhattan federal court, Countrywide in 2007 invented a scheme known as the "Hustle" designed to speed up processing of residential home loans.

Operating under the motto "Loans Move Forward, Never Backward," mortgage executives tried to eliminate "toll gates" designed to ensure that loans were sound and not tainted by fraud, the government said.

This resulted in "defect rates" that were roughly nine times the industry norm, but Countrywide concealed this from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and even awarded bonuses to staff to "rebut" the problems being discovered, it added. The scheme ran through 2009 and caused "countless" foreclosures, it added.

"The fraudulent conduct alleged in today's complaint was spectacularly brazen in scope," U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara in Manhattan said in a statement. "This lawsuit should send another clear message that reckless lending practices will not be tolerated."

Bank of America did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Since paying $2.5 billion for Countrywide on July 1, 2008, the Charlotte, North Carolina-based bank has lost nearly $40 billion on mortgage litigation and requests by investors to buy back soured loans, Credit Suisse estimated on October 5.

Some of these costs related to Merrill Lynch & Co, which Bank of America bought at the beginning of 2009.

According to court records, the case had been filed under seal in February by Edward O'Donnell, a Pennsylvania resident and former executive vice president at Countrywide Home Loans who had worked there between 2003 and 2009.

The United States later joined the case. It seeks triple damages under the federal False Claims Act, as well as civil penalties.

It is unclear whether O'Donnell has hired a lawyer. O'Donnell could not immediately be reached for comment.

Federal regulators seized Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac on September 7, 2008 and put them into a conservatorship.

Bharara's office has in the last 1-1/2 years brought five civil fraud lawsuits against other lenders under the False Claims Act over alleged reckless residential mortgage lending, involving loans insured by the Federal Housing Administration.

In February, Citigroup Inc settled its case for $158.3 million and Flagstar Bancorp Inc settled for $132.8 million, while Deutsche Bank AG settled in May for $202.3 million. Cases are pending against Wells Fargo & Co and Allied Home Mortgage Corp, Bharara said.

On Monday, Congressman Barney Frank, who chaired the House Financial Services Committee in 2008, said Bank of America should probably be shielded from government lawsuits over Merrill, which it bought in part at federal officials' urging, but he said he knew of no such urging to buy Countrywide.

Bank of America shares were up 2 cents at $9.38 in afternoon trading on the New York Stock Exchange.

The case is U.S. ex rel. O'Donnell v. Bank of America Corp et al, U.S, District Court, Southern District of New York, No. 12-01422.

Families, schools, and communities can prepare children and teens to THRIVE through both good and challenging times. Building Resilience in Children and Teens offers strategies to help kids from 18 months to 18 years build seven crucial ?Cs? ? competence, confidence, connection, character, contribution, coping, and control ? so they can excel in life and bounce back from challenges. The book describes how to raise authentically successful children who will be happy, hardworking, compassionate, creative, and innovative. Dr. Ginsburg reminds parents that our goal is to think in the present and prepare for the future, to remember that our real goal is to raise children to be successful 35-year-olds. It?s about more than immediate smiles or even good grades; it?s about raising kids to be emotionally and socially intelligent, to be able to recover from disappointment and forge ahead throughout their lives. The stable connection between caring adults and children is the key to the security that allows kids to creatively master challenges and reach their highest potential. This book offers concrete strategies to solidify those vital family connections.

Resilience is also about confronting the overwhelming stress kids face today. This invaluable guide offers coping strategies for facing the stresses of academic performance, high achievement standards, media messages, peer pressure, and family tension. Young people too commonly survive stress by indulging in unhealthy behaviors or by giving up completely The suggested solutions offered here are aimed at building a repertoire of positive coping strategies. Kids who have these healthy strategies in place may be less likely to turn to those quick, easy, but dangerous fixes that adults fear. The book includes a guide for teens to create their own customized positive coping strategies.

The second edition of this award-winning book continues to focus on parents, but now also offers wisdom about how schools and communities can best support families. It is updated throughout and entirely new chapters offer strategies on how best to: support military families, confront the negative portrayal of teens, prevent perfectionism and support authentic success. Finally, the book now guides parents how to recharge and rebound when their own resilience reaches its limits.

"Trekkies" break world record at London convention

LONDON (Reuters) - Star Trek fans made history on Saturday by breaking the record for the largest gathering of people dressed as characters from the TV series at the "Destination Star Trek London" convention.

An estimated 1,083 costume-clad "trekkies" assembled at the event at London's ExCel centre, narrowly beating the previous record of 1,040 characters, which was set at the bigger, annual Star Trek convention in Las Vegas in August.

The achievement will be officially verified by Guinness World Records within a few days, but organisers were confident they had topped the Las Vegas record.

The majority of record-breakers dressed in the colour-blocked uniforms of the Starfleet, with Vulcans, Klingons and Romulans peppering the crowd.

Trekkie Mark Whitfield went to extreme lengths to participate, wearing a full-body suit to emulate a mugato, a beast from "Star Trek: the Original Series".

"It looks silly, it's just a gorilla suit painted white with horns on it. It's very, very hot. In fact, I was on the verge of collapse when a very kind person gave me a bottle of water because I dehydrated quite badly," he said.

"Destination Star Trek London" is the first live Star Trek event in Britain for over a decade. Around 17,000 fans came to London to celebrate the 46-year-old TV and film franchise, which has spawned six television series and 11 feature films.

"NERDS"

Dawn Harris, 26, who had created an Orion slave girl costume and painted herself metallic green, said there was great enthusiasm for the world record attempt.

"There just hasn't been a convention in the UK for so long. So I think everyone wants to be involved in everything as much as they can. Everybody saw that guy jump out of a plane in space so people are drawn to things like that," she said, referring to Felix Baumgartner's record-breaking jump from a balloon near the edge of space last Sunday.

"Nerds like achieving missions. We've been set a quest and it must be achieved," Harris's fianc?, Ryan Croft, added.

Outlandish costumes were ubiquitous at the event, which saw Britain's first Klingon wedding on Friday. Swedish couple Jossie Sockertopp and Sonnie Gustavsson tied the knot in full Klingon attire and exchanged vows in the fictional and guttural-sounding language of the Star Trek characters.

The three-day convention also saw all five captains from the TV series appear on stage together for the first time.

The captains played by actors William Shatner (Captain Kirk), Patrick Stewart (Captain Picard), Avery Brooks (Captain Sisko), Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway) and Scott Bakula (Captain Archer) joined forces to officially open the convention on Friday night.

Speaking ahead of the opening ceremony, 81-year-old Shatner appeared moved when discussing the show's loyal and sometimes obsessive fans in an interview with Reuters.

"It's an accumulation of a lot of work and a lot of people travelling from all over the world here. It's sort of monumental in its worth," Shatner said.

The veteran actor turned filmmaker has released the documentary "Get a Life!", which examines why fans attend conventions.

"The conclusion that I come to is that it's (Star Trek) mythological," Shatner told Reuters. "It's a desire for mythology that we don't have in this age."

Poll: Germans accept nuke exit despite rising bill

BERLIN (AP) ? A new poll finds that a large majority of Germans back the government's decision to phase out nuclear power and switch to renewable energies within a decade, despite rising electricity bills.

The poll for German news magazine Focus published Sunday found that 72 percent continue to support the country's energy switchover. Only 24 percent were opposed to the policy.

Germany's grid operators announced earlier this month that a surcharge on households' electricity prices financing the expansion of renewable energies will increase by 47 percent starting in January. A typical family of four will then have to pay about ?250 ($325) per year on top of their bill.

Polling agency Forsa surveyed 1,000 people this week. Focus did not provide the poll's margin of error.

95% The Queen of Versailles

All Critics (97) | Top Critics (28) | Fresh (92) | Rotten (5)

Seriously, if this was the American Dream, couldn't we have come up with something better?

"The Queen of Versailles" is funny, sad, infuriating, instructive. It's the American Dream inflated to ridiculous extremes, until it bursts.

More than a social morality tale, this is a character study, with the title well chosen.

"The Queen of Versailles" ought to be required viewing for anyone who blames the rich for yanking the rug out from under America's economy.

By the end, the movie has pulled off a small miracle: You become absorbed in the lives of these people for who they are and not what they own.

What I left with was not hatred. I disapprove of the values they represent, but I also find them fascinating and just slightly lovable.

A powerhouse documentary, the film shifts from simply being a fly-on-the-wall look at material decadence and moral decay into a study of a family trying to hold itself together during a trying period.

a repetitive exercise in schadenfreude, and the Siegels don't do much to alter that... The Queen of Versailles leaves viewers with one feeling about the Siegels: Let them eat stale cake.

Documentaries are rarely as hilarious as this one. Well, the first half of it at least

[E]nds up an ever less slightly ungenerous look at the .01 percent than it might have been... But this is still a brutal film from many angles.

One of the great unsayable truths about the American dream is that it is a bit of a Ponzi scheme ... our system admits a glimmer of hope that anyone, no matter how lowborn, can rise to the top.

Extremely funny and revealing ...

[Siegel] is now suing Greenfield for "misrepresentation". Well, I know whose side I'm on.

She epitomises a Western culture struggling to wean itself off debt.

Greenfield's film is bathed in Florida sunshine, adding to the sensation that we're watching Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous with a Marxist punchline.

Never has grotesque wealth looked so unenviable, or its removal been so entertaining, as in this garishly watchable riches-to-rags documentary ...

[Siegel] ultimately emerges as someone who belongs more in The Little House on the Prairie: ever cheerful, and triumphantly unimpeachable.

The temptation to be moralistic must have been overpowering, yet Greenfield finally manages to summon sympathy for people who at first seem vain, selfish and greedy.

Prepare to be shocked, disgusted and compelled.

In the end, these are human beings, not emblems - and it is this that makes this documentary one of the most watchable, for rich and poor alike.

A bizarre and mesmerising journey to the heart of Cloud Cuckoo Land.

It is a comedy that aspires to tragedy, and a metaphor for a nation collapsing beneath the incompatible, intolerable pressures of excess and inequity.

For all their garishness, the Siegels are pretty likable, even if attempts to make you sympathetic to their "plight" fall short.

It scores a lot of laughs at the Siegel's bad taste and odd ways of adapting to their newfound misfortune. Thankfully, Greenfield also makes the Siegels sympathetic.

If you get some kind of sick kick watching the mighty take a fall, The Queen of Versailles will be nothing short of a schadenfreudic ball.

CSU-Pueblo Today - Pueblo filmmakers ask for your back

The cast stayed after the kickoff party for photos. Photo courtesy of Matthew Sparks.

After two or three website errors, Tim Sparks and David Hartkop could finally kickoff their fundraising campaign on Kickstarter officially for their first feature length film ?Recursion? Oct. 1 at the Rawlings Library.

Although the attendants had to count down several times for the filmmakers to successfully click the launch button on the website, the pumps could not spoil their moods, especially after the screening of the high-quality film trailer shot for the campaign.

Kickstarter is a funding platform for creative projects ranging from films, music, arts and games to technology. Perry Chen, Yancey Strickler and Charles Adler in Manhattan, New York co-founded it in 2009.

Since its establishment, more than $350 million has been pledged by backers, supporting more than 30,000 projects, according to information on Kickstarter?s website.

Once the campaign was launched, the filmmakers have 30 days to raise $125,000 to cover costs of hiring actors and actresses, professional make-up artists, building sets, purchasing costumes and so on. There are different pledge levels starting from $10, and backers can receive rewards accordingly.

?It?s going to be a lot of social networking,? Sparks said. ?It?s going to be intense.?

?The smallest thing someone can do is just share it,? he added.

?Recursion,? meaning a repeated application of a rule or procedure, is a science fiction and horror movie set
in Pueblo in the year 2024. The movie is about a small group of survivors who fight to stay human after an organic computer virus has transformed humanity into a race of networked zombies.

The idea was originated from a 10-minute short film ?16 bit,? which Sparks and David worked on together for the 2012 Pueblo 24 Hour Film Festival.

?This is really taking that idea of ?16 bit? and just stretch it into a feature,? Sparks said.

Sparks and Hartkop serve both as the producers, directors and cinematographers for the film. Previously, the two have worked on several short films together, including a commercial for Solar Roast Coffee, owned by Hartkop, ?the Meadow? and ?16 bit.?

?The Meadow,? received the ?Best of Festival? and ?Best of Science Fiction Genre? in Pueblo?s Sol Film Festival in 2011.

Sparks graduated from Colorado State University-Pueblo in 2012 with a degree in mass communications. He and his brother Daniel Sparks co-founded Sparks Bro Media, a video production company doing wedding videography as well as commercials.

Before ?Recursion?, Sparks has made his name in Southern Colorado through several local film festivals. ?My Own Prison? won ?Best Film? in Pueblo?s 24 Hour Film Festival in 2010.

?The Blacksmith,? an 11-minute documentary on a Colorado metal worker, was also selected to screen at the Indie Spirit Film Festival in Colorado Springs in 2011. The festival viewed 800 films but only selected 120 to screen.

Hartkop earned his bacholer?s degree in Film Producation and Communication Arts from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. He worked in the entertainment industry for eight years, mainly shooting, editing and creating special effects for music videos and commercials.

His productions include Nelly?s video ?Hot In Here? for MTV European release, and Eminem and Obie Trice in ?Rap Name,? according to information on Sparks Bros Media?s website.

He also consulted for McCartney Multimedia and assembled a personal videography studio for John Cleese, writer and actor of Monty-Python fame.

?We actually can take this whole thing on if we actually work really well together,? Sparks said.

The film is approximately 100-minute long and will take 16 months to produce, Hartkop estimated.

Alleged Telly Hankton associates rounded up as part of major ...

Federal agents are in the midst of a major sweep of suspects associated with convicted murderer Telly Hankton and his alleged drug and violent crime network, several sources said. The roundup includes the detention of Hankton's mother, Shirley Hankton, early Friday morning, according to wwltv.com.

She has been accused by state prosecutors of playing a role in an alleged perjury scheme aimed at freeing Telly Hankton last year in the first trial against him for the 2008 murder of Darnell Stewart on South Claiborne Avenue.

That trial ended with a deadlocked jury. Hankton was later convicted in Stewart's murder and sentenced to life in prison. Shortly after his sentencing, the brother of a key witness in the case was gunned down just steps from where Stewart was killed.

Sources said the roundup began last night, after a federal grand jury called several people in to testify over an Uptown-based drug and crime network allegedly led by Telly Hankton.

Several criminal justice sources have told The Times-Picayune that U.S. Attorney Jim Letten's office has been preparing a major racketeering indictment against the Hankton clan, with perhaps a dozen or more people expected to face criminal charges.

No indictment has been filed into the public record yet.

Kyle Hanrahan, an FBI spokesman, declined to comment on the sweep Friday, referring inquiries to Letten's office. A call to Letten was not immediately returned Friday morning.

At least a handful of people have so far been detained, sources said.

Follow NOLA.com for developments in the case.

Computer Crime Info ? Blog Archive ? LinkedIn Search Techniques

Posted on October 14th, 2012

LinkedIn has become a huge source of personal information during OSINT searches. Recently, LinkedIn has blocked full profile views for free users. It is also becoming more difficult to see profile content of people that you are not connected to through the social network. The below techniques will aid in viewing profiles.

Searching by company

If you are searching for employees of a specific company, searching the company name often provides numerous profiles. Clicking on any of these profiles presents a very limited view, such as the example below.

?

?

?

?

?

?

?

?

You are now required to upgrade to a full premium account in order to get further information. Instead, copy the entire job description under the ?LinkedIn Member? title. In this example, it is ?Marketing Specialist at REDACTED Inc.?. Use this in a custom Google search as displayed in the example below.

?

?

?

?

?

?

PDF Profile View

Each result will link to a profile that should allow for a more detailed view. This will also usually work without being logged in. After you have identified a specific target, log into LinkedIn and search for the subject?s name. Open the profile and review the information. Some profiles will mask some details if you are not connected to the person. When this happens, select the down arrow next to the blue ?Connect? button and select ?Export to PDF?. This will open a document that should have the full content in resume format. Below is a small section of this content.

The next blog post will identify how to identify bulk cell phone numbers by matching them to Facebook profiles. This can help law enforcement identify cash cell phones that appear in CelleBrite reports.

Sugar Addiction: Part Deux | Psychology Today

A few months ago, I wrote a blog post titled ?Sugar Addiction? where I questioned whether abstinence is the best treatment for sugar addiction. That post sparked discussion amongst my readers and the comments inspired me to write a follow-up to my original post.

There is a growing body of research showing that certain foods can have addictive properties for certain people. The similarities between some eating behaviors and drugs of abuse have resulted in use of the term ?food addiction.? The term ?addiction? is value-laden with strong associations to substance abuse. Abstinence has long been the primary mode of treatment for drug and alcohol addictions and it is the most widely accepted path to recovery. However, there are alternate methods of recovery from substance abuse, including the harm reduction model that has helped people to recover from substance abuse without requiring complete abstinence. Just as there is more than one path to recovery from drug and alcohol addiction, there is more than one path to recovery from food addiction.? ?

Food addiction occupies a gap between substance abuse and eating disorders. Traditionally, these two fields have remained separate and have evolved with different methods of treatment. While much of substance abuse treatment has focused on abstinence, eating disorder treatment has focused on the opposite- lessening restrictions around food. Research has shown that restricting your food intake (abstinence) most often leads to binge eating, loss of control, and other disordered eating behaviors. In addition, classifying foods as ?good? or ?bad? also tends to increase disordered eating, in part because of the judgments that we make about ourselves when we eat a ?good? or ?bad? food. Have you ever thought ?I was bad tonight? based on what you ate? This type of thinking fuels eating disorders.

Of course, we cannot be completely abstinent from food. Unlike drugs and alcohol, we need food to survive. Food nourishes our bodies and provides us with the energy that we need to soar through our day. Since we cannot avoid all foods, what about just eliminating sugar? Sugar is often singled out as a culprit in the addictive process (remember what I said earlier about labeling foods as ?good? or ?bad??). Sugar has become ubiquitous in our food products. It is in everything from breakfast cereal to canned fish to salad dressing to dried fruit to ketchup. In fact, sugar is in most processed foods and restaurant meals. It is nearly impossible to avoid sugar without finding yourself on a highly restrictive diet. And it is exactly this type of restrictive dieting that buys you a seat on the diet-binge rollercoaster.

I believe that mindful eating is our ticket off this ride. Through mindful eating, we learn to eat in tune with our bodies and provide our bodies with the nourishment that it requires to function effectively. Through mindful eating and mindful observation, we may find that certain foods don?t make our bodies-minds feel good and chose not to eat these foods. These foods are available to us should we chose to eat them. They are not off limits. They are neither good nor bad and we are neither good nor bad because we chose to eat or not eat these foods. We make decisions moment-to-moment as we mindfully chose what we will and will not eat.

The bottom line is: do what works for you! If abstinence from sugar has helped curb your problematic eating behaviors then by all means continue abstaining from sugar. However, if abstinence is not working for you and you are continuing to ride the diet-binge rollercoaster, please know that there are other options available to you. There are multiple paths to recovery and you must keep searching until you find what works for you. Healing from disordered eating and food addictions is best done with professional help from a licensed mental health practitioner. I wish you all peace in your relationship with food.?

(AP) ? A shadowy jihadi group believed to be linked to al-Qaida fought alongside rebels who seized a government missile defense base in Syria on Friday, activists said, heightening fears that extremists are taking advantage of the chaos to acquire advanced weapons.

Videos posted online Friday said to have been shot inside the base said the extremist group, Jabhat al-Nusra, participated in the overnight battle for the air defense base near the village of al-Taaneh, east of Aleppo in northern Syria. The videos show dozens of fighters inside the base near a radar tower, along with rows of large missiles, some on the backs of trucks.

A report by a correspondent with the Arabic satellite network Al-Jazeera who visited the base Friday said Jabhat al-Nusra had seized the base. The report showed a number of missiles and charred buildings, as fighters covered their faces with black cloths.

Two Aleppo-based activists and Rami Abdul-Rahman, head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, also said Jabhat al-Nusra fought in the battle.

Little is known about Jabhat al-Nusra, or the Support Front, which began claiming attacks in Syria earlier this year in postings on jihadi forums often used by al-Qaida. While neither group has officially acknowledged the other, analysts say al-Nusra's tactics, jihadist rhetoric and use of al-Qaida forums point to an affiliation.

Western powers ? and many Syrians ? worry that Islamist extremists are playing an increasing role in Syria's civil war, which started in March 2011 as a mostly peaceful uprising against President Bashar Assad.

Activist say more than 32,000 people have been killed in the conflict.

Despite their opposition to the Assad regime, the U.S. and others have cited the presence of extremists among the rebels as a reason not to supply them with weapons. Rebel leaders argue that the lack of military aid leaves a vacuum that extremists can exploit.

The base captured Friday is part of the large air defense infrastructure Syria has built across the country over the years, mostly for use in a possible war with archenemy Israel.

Last week, the rebels reported seizing another air defense base outside the capital, Damascus, as well as a base in the southern province of Daraa. Online videos shows them torching vehicles and seizing boxes of ammunition in the Daraa base.

The storming of such bases by rebels from inside Syria embarrasses the Assad regime, though it is unclear if the rebels have the know-how to deploy these bases' weapons.

Nor is it clear if the rebels are holding the bases after storming them.

Friday's Al-Jazeera report said rebels were already preparing to withdraw, fearing airstrikes by regime jets ? a threat rebels can do little about.

Rebel forces have been vulnerable to airstrikes by the Syrian military, though they have shot down a few attack helicopters and claim to have downed at least one warplane.

One Aleppo activist said the rebels had taken all the munitions they could from the newly captured base, and he hoped they could find a way to use the missiles against Assad's air force.

"We have asked all countries to help us with anti-aircraft weapons and no one has, so hopefully these will help," said the activist, Mohammed Saeed.

Paul Ryan's Diet and Fitness vs. Joe Biden's Diet and Fitness

As vice presidential candidates Paul Ryan and Joe Biden battle for the country?s vote, we are looking at the politicians in a different light ? that of their physical fitness and personal diets. Will the person who can do the most pushups be the best as second-in-command? Maybe not, but it does say something about them, however you may interpret it.

Congressman Ryan, 42, is well-known for his love of exercise. He is a devotee of P90X workouts, the high intensity DVD program developed by Tony Horton, frequently leading sessions in the capitol?s gym. The grueling sessions range from 60 to 90 minutes, combining cardio workouts, weight training, yoga, and stretching for an extensive training routine that really pushes your body.

Ryan?s rumored six-pack abs have had their own set of scrutiny, with more Google searches of ?Paul Ryan shirtless? than ?Paul Ryan budget? after the announcement in August that he was running alongside Romney. Out of college, he worked as a personal trainer and enjoys as sport skiing and hiking. If catfish noodling counts as a sport, he does that, too.

Ryan reports that he is six-foot-two, 163 pounds, and keeps his body fat between 6 and 8 percent. To maintain his lean physique, his diet doesn?t include many indulgences. While other politicians on the campaign trail cave to the offerings of greasy meals, fried foods, and sweets, Ryan politely declines. He rarely eats desserts, but when he does make a stop at the ice cream shop he chooses a soft serve cone. He says his worst habit is his daily two cups of coffee. What?s lesser known is that Ryan is concerned about his health in part because his father died of a heart attack when Ryan was 16, and his grandfather and great-grandfather also died of heart disease. He?s determined not to share that fate.

Joe Biden is less enthusiastic about food and diet, but the 69-year-old keeps himself in shape despite a workload helping to manage the country. He likes running, biking, and strengthening his core. He played football in high school and college, admittedly enjoying the sport much more than his studies. Nowadays, he mainly sticks to?gym workouts, including lifting weights and dropping by the Senate gym with his old colleagues when he has time.

Biden?s favorite cuisine is Italian, and pasta is his favorite dish. When dining out at an Italian restaurant close to his home, he reportedly often orders penne with tomato sauce and basil. He is much more likely than Ryan to indulge in whatever scrumptious food is offered to him on the campaign trail. He says time with his five grandchildren helps keep him spry.

Whoever wins the title of the next vice president is sure to make their health a priority. Good fitness and nutrition practices help cut down on sick days, boost mental clarity, and improve mood and energy levels. The vice president needs all of these things and more, so it?s good to see this year?s candidates giving important consideration to their well-being.

Space shuttle Endeavour starts road trip to new Los Angeles home

LOS ANGELES | Fri Oct 12, 2012 4:16am EDT

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The retired space shuttle Endeavour sets off on Friday for a road trip unlike any of its previous journeys, one that will see it crawl through the streets of Los Angeles instead of hurtling through the solitary reaches of space.

Endeavour will nose out of Los Angeles International Airport well before dawn as it begins a two-day ground journey atop a massive wheeled transporter to its final resting place at the California Science Center on the edge of downtown.

"It's a national treasure; this is something that we all paid for with our taxes," Ken Phillips, aerospace curator at the science center, said of the hulking craft that flew from 1992 to 2011 and will go on public display later this month.

He described the shuttle, which was largely built in Southern California, as a workhorse for the American space program and said it represented "the very best, I think, of what people can do when they decide to cooperate and do good things."

The science center beat out a number of other institutions when NASA chose it as the permanent home for the 80-ton winged spaceship, which was taken out of service due to the historic end of the NASA shuttle program that began with a launch in 1981.

Endeavour hop-scotched across the country from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on the back of a modified Boeing 747. It was parked at the airport after arriving on September 21 following a ceremonial piggyback flight around California during which spectators on the ground cheered and wept.

Workers have felled 400 curbside trees along Endeavour's 12-mile (19-km) route to clear its way. The science center will plant more than 1,000 trees to make up for their removal.

Los Angeles City Councilwoman Jan Perry said that when Endeavour flew over the city last month, she and her colleagues ran up to the roof of City Hall where they watched it with tears in their eyes.

STAR AT A RALLY

Perry said she remained apprehensive about the road journey, when she said Endeavour will pass through intersections with as little as 6 inches of clearance. She also anticipates large crowds along the way.

"It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the space shuttle come down your neighborhood street," Perry said. "How often does that happen?"

Los Angeles police were closing streets along the planned route for what organizers are calling "Mission 26," in reference to the shuttle's 25 previous missions into space.

Soon after rolling out of the airport, the shuttle will pass through the nearby city of Inglewood where on Saturday morning it will be the star in a massive rally outside an arena where the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team once played.

Later that day, it will stop at a shopping mall in South Los Angeles where officials will speak and a dance academy started by "Fame" actress Debbie Allen will perform.

Once it arrives at the science center, it will be displayed in a temporary, hangar-style metal structure to protect it from the elements. In 2017, a special pavilion will open in which Endeavour will stand vertically, Phillips said.

The other remaining spaceships from the shuttle program have also found homes. The Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., has Discovery at its Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center museum in Virginia, New York City has the prototype shuttle Enterprise at its Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, and the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral in Florida has Atlantis, which the center will move to an on-site visitor complex next month.

"We have enjoyed the space shuttles, at least working here at NASA, and it's time now to let the public enjoy seeing the shuttle first-hand, getting an up-close look at it," NASA spokeswoman Lisa Malone said.
