Automotive Technician Job Description

In the United States, an automotive technician is a person who is in charge of managing all the technical and working aspects of the automobiles. These works include the reparation processes involving all types of automobiles, inspecting and the maintaining of the engine or other related parts of the automobile, etc.

Duties

The duties of a technician include the application of the knowledge related with maintenance of the cars and all the reparation processes. In other words, the automotive technician has to explain and give information related with the problems pertaining to the vehicles of the customers. The automotive technician must also ask for the permission to repairs the cars of the concerned customer before embarking on to repairing their vehicles. The responsibility of an automotive technician includes maintaining the conditions of the automobile as well as repairing and changing all the broken parts of the car. Normally all these activities are done by elaborating diagnostics and by taking test drive of the car engine by using special equipments for this purpose.

In the United States to become an Automotive Technician, the person needs to fulfill certain requirements. The qualifications required for automotive technician include-

• An automotive technician is required to have degree or diploma in automotive technology, advance automotive studies, industrial engineering, mechanical, engineering, etc.
• A certification from The National Institute for Automotive Services (ASE) will give knowledge and advantage to the prospective automotive technician.
• An automotive technician is required to complete the training in the fields like electrical studies, suspension management, reparation and maintenance of engines, etc.
