It has been recently revealed that the Victorian Government has awarded a $2 million Victorian Cancer Agency research grant to researchers of different universities to find an effective treatment for prostate cancer.
Experts from Monash University, Melbourne University, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Epworth Health and Ludwig Institute will be conducting a genetic research to know the main reason of prostate cancer so that they find new treatments.
Associate Professor Mark Frydenberg will be leading the research. He said that in addition to find treatments for prostate cancer, they will also be looking at treatment options for men who are at initial stages of the cancer.
"This will allow us to perform better pre-clinical studies of promising drug treatments for early and advanced prostate cancer", said Mark. Professor Gail Risbridger, who is the Research Director of the Monash Comprehensive Cancer Consortium, said that they are quite happy with the collaboration.
As per him, the collaboration was quite important to combat the disease. There are more than 50 experts who will be working together to bring out better outcomes in a shorter time period. The Victorian Government called it to be the biggest investment of the year and hopes that clinicians and researchers achieve their goal.
